Understanding Alchemy

In this increasingly fragmented world in which we live, there is a constant quest for religious expression that will at long last enable the fusion of the material and the spiritual. Such an expression is to be found in a combination of alchemy and the psychological studies of C. G. Jung, himself no stranger to alchemical study. He used the stages of purification and refinement found in The Book of Lambsprinck , a 16th-century alchemical text, as well as in Jung's archetypes of consciousness and unconsciousness, these authors trace the development of self from solitude to union. The great attraction of the book is its affirmation of the redemption of broken matter in the unification of self and soul. Illustrations, reproduced from The Book of Lambsprinck , are beautifully rendered. The end result, in sum, is a vital text for all spiritual seekers.
