Quiz: Take Healthy Living for Every Age HERE

An aging body has changed in many ways, and not just in those obvious to visual inspection. The typical old body is identifiably different from the typical middle-aged body at the level of cells, genes and biochemistry: biochemical processes, gene expression, levels of molecular damage, cellular behaviors, cellular populations, and so on.

Some of these differences are clearly causally linked - a wide range of age-related changes can often be shown to be caused by a lesser number of underlying changes. For example, damage to mitochondria leads to oxidization of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), which in turn leads to detrimental changes involved in atherosclerosis, which is the principal cause of coronary heart disease and other forms of cardiovascular disease. Most modes of biochemical wear and tear contribute to a wide range of recognized age-related conditions and frailty.
One role of aging research should be to explore these linkages, so as to better characterize the core of aging; what, really, are the essential changes of aging when all the chains of failure have been cut back to their root causes? Read on

BREAKTHROUGH:STOP MEMORY LOSS

MS lesions within the brain and spinal cord are produced when inflammatory processes mistakenly attack myelin, the insulating sheath around nerve fibres. It has long been thought that the reconstitution and repair of damaged myelin might help reverse disease. One way to achieve this would be to provide the body with new myelin-producing cells, known as oligodendrocytes, to rebuild the myelin which has been lost. This is the goal of stem cell research, which uses reprogrammed cells that are capable of developing into many different cell types to treat disease. Often, the focus of MS research has been on how to generate and treat myelin loss with oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs), the precursor cells that develop into oligodendrocytes.
This has previously been achieved with stem cells made from foetal tissue, but researchers from the University of Rochester Medical Centre are the first to successfully create OPCs from skin cells.Read on

Plastic and Cancerous Compounds in Tea Bags—A Surprising Source of Potential Toxins

I’ve long advocated drinking tea in lieu of coffee, but the downside of modern food technology is again rearing its ugly head and causing brand new health concerns over this otherwise healthful brew.
A recent article in The Atlantic1 raises questions about the safety of plastic tea bags, some of which have fancy pyramid shapes, designed to allow the tea leaves to unfurl during infusion.
Chances are you’ve never even given the tea bag a second thought. But indeed, some of the newer tea bags are made with a variety of plastics; some are nylon, some are made of viscose rayon, and others are made of thermoplastic, PVC or polypropylene.
Anyone aware of the dangers of plastic chemicals leaching out of plastic containers and bottles is likely to be concerned about drinking tea steeped through heated plastic.
The other bad news is that paper tea bags may be just as bad, or worse, than the plastic ones because many of them are treated with epichlorohydrin, a compound mainly used in the production of epoxy resins.
Considered a potential carcinogen by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health2 (NIOSH), epichlorohydrin is also used as a pesticide. Besides making its way into tea bags, it can also be found in coffee filters, water filters, and sausage casings.
When epichlorohydrin comes in contact with water, it hydrolyzes to 3-MCPD, which has been shown to cause cancer in animals. It’s also been implicated in infertility (it has a spermatoxic effect in male rats3) and suppressed immune function4.
This chemical is already a well-known “process contaminant” associated with modern food production. According to the American Oil Chemicals Society5(AOCS), 3-MCPD can also be found in variable levels in refined vegetable oils, which is yet another reason to avoid such cooking oils and replace them with organic coconut oil.

Do Plastic Tea Bags Pose a Health Concern?

As you probably know, chemicals in plastic containers and bottles have been found to leach into food and drink, thereby posing a number of health hazards. Examples include bisphenol-A (BPA), bisphenol-S (BPS), and phthalates, all of which mimic hormones and act as potent endocrine disruptors.
Unfortunately, according to the featured article, neither the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice nor the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have any information on the toxicity of plastic tea bags or the levels of plastic chemicals that might migrate into the tea when steeped in hot water. Hard to believe, but true, the US federal agencies are not supervising this potential toxic exposure.

5 Signs You Will Get Cancer
And 7 Smart Ways to Prevent It!

"You have cancer" is something you NEVER want to hear from your doctor . . . because it means a world of suffering, and, for too many, death.
But here's SHOCKING news — most people have cancer in their bodies right now and don't even know it!
That's because a healthy body and a strong immune system destroy emerging cancer cells before they can create the life-threatening disease . . .
But some people are not so lucky.Dr. David Brownstein
Sadly, over 5,000 people in North America are diagnosed with cancer every single day — almost 2 million per year!
And that's why we're thrilled at Newsmax Health today to bring you an extraordinary presentation — How to Prevent Cancer — by America's foremost holistic health practitioner, Dr. David Brownstein.
In the next few moments, Dr. Brownstein will reveal five warning signs that you are at risk for cancer. You'll be surprised at just how common these are.
But the good news is that you DO NOT have to be a cancer victim. Today, Dr. Brownstein will show you what causes cancer, along with his simple steps to prevent and even reverse it.
Prevention is more important than ever before because, as Dr. Brownstein will tell you . . .
Contrary to cancer industry propaganda, we are NOT winning the war on cancer. Conventional cancer treatments are failing. And overall death rates for cancer are unchanged in 80 years!
Dr. Brownstein is the medical director of the Holistic Center for Medicine in West Bloomfield, Mich.
He's the author of 10 best-selling health books, and he's the nationally known editor of Newsmax's very popular Natural Way to Health.
Let's go to Dr. David Brownstein now. His valuable guidance on preventing cancer can literally save your life, and the lives of those you love!
How to Prevent CancerBy Dr. David Brownstein
Dr. David BrownsteinHello, I'm Dr. David Brownstein. Today, I'm going to show you five warning signs that you're likely to get cancer, and also how to preventit!
And what I have to say will be of equal value to those who already have been diagnosed with cancer, are undergoing treatment, or are in remission.
What you discover in the next few minutes can literally save your life. . .
My goal is to empower you to take charge of your health, and not become a cancer victim because of a lack of this basic cancer-prevention knowledge.
Why listen to me on this subject?
I'm a U.S.-trained medical doctor with a private practice in West Bloomfield, Mich. I have had tremendous success restoring the health of patients who have come to me after conventional medicine has failed them.
And what's particularly interesting about that is . . .
  • Routinely, I find my new patients have key nutrient deficiencies and hormonal imbalances, usually as a result of eating the Standard American Diet. I refer to it as the SAD diet. This diet can predispose you to many nutrient and hormonal imbalances and leads to a devitalized body.
  • I find they have been exposed to an overload of environmental toxins in food, water, air, and consumer products, and these exposures are suppressing and disrupting their immune systems.
What's more . . .
  • Their bodies have been damaged by harmful and unnecessary drugs.
  • And finally, they've been misinformed by the government, the media, and most egregiously, by a medical establishment controlled by the pharmaceutical industry.

Amazing Watercress

This month, researchers at Southampton University discovered that within hours of eating 3oz of watercress a day – about a full cereal bowl – a small group of breast cancer survivors had a higher level of cancer-fighting molecules in their blood.
They found the compound phenethyl isothiocyanate – which gives watercress its peppery taste – blocks the hypoxia-inducible factor protein which helps cancer tumours grow.
They also found watercress helps ‘turn off’ the signals that cancer cells send out asking the body for more blood and oxygen.
Professor Graham Packham, who led the research, said: ‘I was surprised that eating one portion produced significant levels of this compound in the blood. It has the potential to have the same effect with other cancers.’

It is an excellent source of natural phytonutrients, substances in plants that have antioxidant properties such as isothiocyanates, flavonoids and carotenoids.
It also contains folate, which helps maintain normal blood levels of homocysteine (high levels are associated with an increased coronary heart disease risk) as well as decreasing the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

Watercress, common in Europe, North America, and lower South America, is an aquatic perennial that grows in regions that have small natural streams and limestone. The plants thrive when submerged in fresh running water, and there is no danger of winter-killing as long as the water does not freeze solid. Watercress grows in moist soil, usually along the banks of streams, and in recent years has been grown in greenhouses. Partial shade, moist soil, high humidity, and lime result in satisfactory growth. It is grown for its small, round, pungent leaves, which are eaten raw as salads or as garnishes, and as an ingredient in soups. Because of its flavor, watercress makes a tangy seasoning agent.
Brazilians have used watercress for treating tuberculosis, and experiments have reportedly shown improvement in a number of patients. Supposedly, the bacteria in watercress destroys the tuberculosis bacteria. Natives of Brazil have long produced a syrup which is claimed, in some cases, to be a remedy for this disease. This syrup is made by placing alternate layers of moist watercress and sugar in an earthen jar and burying it for fifteen to twenty days. After the liquid settles, the resulting syrup is supposed to be palliative and curative.

Understanding Alchemy

In this increasingly fragmented world in which we live, there is a constant quest for religious expression that will at long last enable the fusion of the material and the spiritual. Such an expression is to be found in a combination of alchemy and the psychological studies of C. G. Jung, himself no stranger to alchemical study. He used the stages of purification and refinement found in The Book of Lambsprinck , a 16th-century alchemical text, as well as in Jung's archetypes of consciousness and unconsciousness, these authors trace the development of self from solitude to union. The great attraction of the book is its affirmation of the redemption of broken matter in the unification of self and soul. Illustrations, reproduced from The Book of Lambsprinck , are beautifully rendered. The end result, in sum, is a vital text for all spiritual seekers.

Threats to Your Water Supply Abound --

By Dr. Mercola
Polluted drinking water is a significant health threat that is sorely underreported and oft-ignored. A recent article in the Star Tribune1 highlights the very real struggle to access clean drinking water right here in the United States.
"Debbie Carlson can laugh at the irony: She's the wife of a well digger who can't find good water for his own family. Like one out of three wells in Dakota County, hers is so contaminated with nitrates she won't let anyone drink from it -- especially her 8-year-old granddaughter.
Most likely it comes from nitrogen used as fertilizer on the cornfields surrounding her home," Josephine Marcotty writes.2 "'Nitrogen was a great thing for the family farm,' Carlson said. 'But I am paying the price.'"

Minnesota Facing Growing Water Contamination Problem

In part due to the fact that Minnesota is prime farm land, many of the state's inhabitants now face the problem of having elevated levels of nitrogen in their drinking water. The conversion of grasslands and pastures into chemical-driven, industrial crop land has eliminated much of the natural filtering of ground water that such native landscapes typically provide. The areas worst affected include: Read on...
